Most people use these terms interchangeably. However, there is a technical difference.
Polishing is a form of correction. Most times when someone is polishing it is to remove slight surface imperfections such as small scratches or swirl marks.
Waxing is a form of protection. When a layer of wax is applied to the surface of the paint, it creates a protective layer. This layer helps protect the paint from bird droppings or water spots.
